Park and Fields Use Policy

Individuals may use most city park features without a permit, on a first-come, first-serve basis, however, permits are recommended so we can manage the number of people using a park on a particular day. Permits and/or rental fees and deposits are required for use of fun bags, picnic pavilions, electricity and some ball fields, soccer fields and hockey rinks. Payment is due at time of reservation.

Permits are issued at the Kulick Community Center office, 1201 Livernois weekdays only: Monday -Thursday 8:00am - 7:30pm and Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Call (248) 544-6767 to inquire about reservations. Valid Michigan ID is required 1) when the reservation is made, and 2)when picking up permits, keys, or fun bags. Special event permits may be required for certain activities and generally take 45 days to process.

General Park Permit:

A. General Park Permits do not grant exclusive use of the park, tables, or grills. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge. The permit assists us in managing the number of groups using a park on a particular day.

B. Electricity is available at Martin Road and Geary Park pavilions. A $25 refundable deposit is required to obtain the electric box key.

C. Fun Bags containing sports equipment – soccer ball, playground ball, scoop set, baseball, softballs, football, volleyball, jump rope, etc.– are available for a fee of $10, plus a $50 refundable deposit.

Park Restrooms:

Restrooms are generally open for the season May 15 - October 15, weather permitting. Park restrooms are cleaned and open for use at 9:00am and closed at approximately 9:00pm every day provided restrooms are not vandalized.

Pavilion Permits for Martin Road and Geary Parks:

A. Picnic Pavilion reservations may be made on a first-come, first-served basis beginning January 2 of each year. A 50%nonrefundable deposit is required upon reservation. No phone reservations.

B. Pavilion Rental grants exclusive use of the pavilion, tables therein, and electrical access. Rates are:

# of Hours Res NR
4 $50 $100
Over 4 $80 $160

Ball Field and Hockey Rink Permit:

A. Residents may use most ball fields, soccer fields or hockey rinks without a permit, at any time there are no City scheduled games or practices, or others with permits on a first-come, first-serve basis. Exceptions include Martin Road Ball Field #1, and the full-size "Dream Field " soccer field at Martin Road Park which require special permits to use.

B. Permits for reserved field and rink use are issued to city residents, city businesses, or city league teams.  Recreation teams with permits have priority use of the field or rink during their designated permit time. Permit must be on-site to be considered valid.

C. No individual/group may have more than two permits at any one time.

D. To reserve a ball field, soccer field or hockey rink, call the Kulick Center office at (248)544-6767 ext.0 during normal business hours.

E. Please be prepared to present your Michigan ID when you pick up your permit to verify residency.

Vandalism:

The City asks residents to serve as its eyes and ears and assist in watching for vandalism to park facilities. If you personally see someone in the act of vandalizing a restroom or other park property contact the Ferndale Police non-emergency number at (248)546-2150. If you visit the park and find vandalized restrooms or other park property, please contact the Kulick Center office at (248)544-6767 ext.0 and report the location. If vandalism becomes a continued problem the restrooms will be closed and equipment removed.
