1. Dave Coulter, County Commissioner, updated
Council regarding upgrading election equipment.
2. Frank Flores, American Legion Post No. 330,
read a statement to request everyone to support the troops and
announced on April 16, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., at Oak Park Community
Center, a support group meeting would be held for those with family
members involved in the war.
3. Brian Cooley, member of Beautification
Commission, announced that the Parks Clean-Up will be on April 26,
2003 at 9:00 a.m. and still needed volunteers and also announced the
Commission was seeking nominations for the "Great Tree"
contest.

Call to Council
XXX. Fire Chief LeGault announced that
retired Firefighter Engineer Gordon Armitage had passed away. He
also announced that Pleasant Ridge had given him dates for the
Contract Committee to discuss the Fire Protection Contract with
them. Councilman Covey inquired about the Fire Union feelings of not
being notified of any information on potential fire protection for
Royal Oak Township.

XXX. City Manager Barwin announced that the
Withington Parking Lot will be resurfaced in May. He also announced
that the group involved in expanding the Intermodal
Freight Facility will be holding their next meeting in Ferndale in
late April and the Integrated Pest Management Committee will bring
recommendations at the next Council Meeting.
XXX. Councilman Lennon announced he
attended a meeting regarding Instant Runoff Voting. He also
announced that he received an e-mail from a resident regarding
rezoning in the area near the 8 Mile/Woodward Bridge.
XXX. Councilman Galloway announced that
children’s programming will be held at the Ferndale Activity
Center (Curling Club) during the summer and commented about his
experience at the MML Conference.
XXX. Councilwoman Weber announced that Pak
Mail would be hosting a Grand Opening celebration on April 24, 2003
from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and commented on information distributed
in the Chambers which gives assistance to residents and communities
to look at federal policies and budget concerns.
XXX. Councilman Covey announced that the Star
of India Restaurant was open and that the new club Posch would be
open by summer. M.A.P.P. would be hosting a fund-raiser, "Salsa
2003" at Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Boogie Fever to see which
local restaurant has the best salsa.
XXX. Mayor Porter announced that 147 police
officer died in 2002, in the line of duty. He also requested
residents to keep the flyer they received from the Department of
Public Works recently as a reference throughout the year.
