1. Susan Lindson, member of the Integrated Pest
Management Committee, provided information on the West Nile Virus
and provided preventable measures that people can take to protect
themselves.

XXX. Moved by Councilman Covey, seconded by
Councilman Galloway, to approve the Consent Agenda as submitted:
A. Appoint a Representative and Alternate to the
Board of Trustees of the Southeastern Oakland County Resource
Recovery Authority (SOCRRA), as submitted by City Manager.
B. Approval of "Thursdays on the Nine" to
be held Thursday, June 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m., authorization for businesses in the DDA to hold sidewalk
sales and promotions in conjunction with the event, and the use of
public pedestrian alleys on West Nine Mile Road for the event dates
and times, as submitted by DDA Manager.
C. Receive the Police Department Report for April,
2003.
D. Approval of the bills and payrolls (as certified
by City Manager) and City Attorney expense statement submitted by
Beier Howlett, P.C., to be paid subject to review by the Council
Finance Committee.

A. Reappointment to the Police and Fire Board
Mayor Porter received and read the letter for the
record from Ms. Scott that indicated her desire to be reappointed to
the Police and Fire Board.

Councilman Galloway, to reappoint Laura Scott, 965 W. Hazelhurst, to
the Police and Fire Board Committee.

B. Consideration to approve the contract for water
main work and authorization for the Mayor and City Clerk to sign
contract
XXX. Moved by Councilman Covey, seconded by
Councilman Lennon, that the contract between Aiello Construction
Company and the City for emergency water main work be approved,
contingent upon City Attorney’s requests being fulfilled and
authorization for the Mayor and City Clerk to sign contract.

Call to Council
XXX. Councilman Galloway requested that Police
Chief Kitchen have a representative at the next Pleasant Ridge
Commission Meeting to answer any questions they may have regarding
Police Dispatcher position.
XXX. Fire Captain Schmidt announced that the
Fire Safety House will be at the Bike Rodeo. Councilman Galloway
inquired if the Fire Department had received any complaints
regarding diesel fuel odor.
XXX. City Manager Barwin announced that SEMCOG
Federal Review Hearings would be held on June 9, 2003.
XXX. Councilman Lennon thanked the Ferndale’s
NLC Youth Delegates for their participation and wished his
grandmother a "Happy 86th Birthday".
XXX. Councilman Galloway thanked the Ferndale’s
NLC Youth Delegates for their participation.
XXX. Councilwoman Weber commented on
"Thursday on the Nine" and announced that citizens could
voice their opinions to the Bureau of Elections in Lansing regarding
how monies are spent in purchasing new voting machines and wished
her mother a "Happy 94th Birthday".
XXX. Councilman Covey reminded residents that
School Board Elections will be held on Monday, June 9, 2003;
announced the Pub Crawl will be held on Friday, July 25, 2003 and a
committee meeting for event will be held on June 4, 2003, 7:00 p.m.
at Tony’s Sports Bar; commended DDA Manager, Cristina Sheppard-Decius
who attended National Town Meeting Conference where she learned
Ferndale has done what was recommended at the conference for the
last 10 years; announced that Dine-Out Detroit would be held on
Friday, June 6, 2003, a fundraiser to raise money for H.I.V/A.I.D.S.
prevention.
XXX. Moved by Councilman Covey, supported
unanimously, to adopt a Resolution recognizing June, 2003 as Gay
Pride Month.

XXX. Mayor Porter announced he received a letter
complimenting CDS Director Marsha Scheer, thanked those who attended
the Memorial Day Parade and thanked Ed Schmid Ford for providing
transportation for him during the parade. Mayor Porter also wished
his wife a "Happy Birthday" and congratulated WFRN
employee Ryan Lange on the birth of his new son.
XXX. Moved by Mayor Porter, supported
unanimously, to adopt a Resolution of congratulation for Joel
Fischer, owner of Natural Food Patch, on his 60th Birthday.
