City Council - July 21, 2008

A Special Meeting of the Ferndale City Council was held Monday, July 21, 2008, at City Hall, 300 East Nine Mile Road, Ferndale. Mayor Covey called the meeting to order at 6:11 p.m.

Present: Mayor Covey, Council Members Baker, Galloway.

Absent: Council Members Gumbleton and Lennon.

There were no members of the audience wishing to speak.

City Manager Bruner introduced a discussion of funding sources.

Dave Asker, Plante Moran CRESA, presented facility options:

New construction.

Renovation of existing structures.

Purchase of 2^nd floor of Credit Union ONE building for City Hall and renovation of existing City Hall for the District Court and the Police Department.

Purchase of 345 E. Nine Mile for the District Court and renovation of existing City Hall.

Building a new complex on the City-owned "Troy Lot".

Mr. Asker identified two of the options as being affordable based on the City’s available funding: Credit Union ONE and 345 E. Nine Mile.

Councilman Galloway suggested the next steps should be a Council decision at its July 28, 2008 meeting on which of the two affordable options to pursue as Plan "A", and to hold a Closed Session at the same meeting to determine negotiating points for real estate purchases for both Plan "A" and Plan "B".

Council members expressed concern that the Credit Union ONE option would require steps to create a clear presence of City Hall.

There being no objections, Mayor Covey adjourned the meeting at 8:14 p.m.
