Property Tax Payment Information

Have you recently paid off your mortgage and now will pay your own property taxes?  Have you recently purchased or refinanced your home and will not be escrowing your taxes?

Then paying your own property taxes can be an easy and convenient process for you.  Here's how:

School and City Tax Bills (summer tax) are mailed to property owners on or about July 1 of each year.  You may pay this tax in full by July 31, or participate in the 8-installment payment plan.  This option allows you to extend your payments over 8 months (July - February).  Preprinted payment booklets are available in the Treasurer's office for your convenience.  If you pay a minimum of 1/8 of the total bill on or before the last business day of each month then no additional charges are imposed.  Payments received after the dates noted on the payment coupons will be charged a small penalty.  Penalties accumulate the longer your payment goes unpaid. You may always pay more than the minimum payment but not less.

County Tax Bills (winter tax) are mailed to property owners on December 1, of each year.  You must pay this tax in full by February 14, of the following year.

Any tax amounts remaining unpaid at the close of February 28, are returned to Oakland County as delinquent.  At that time, the county imposes additional penalties and interest and payments must be made in Pontiac at the Oakland County Treasurer's office.
