ArianneWFRN-TV is the City of Ferndale’s municipal cable television channel, appearing on Channel 53 with Comcast Cable and Channel 10 with Wide Open West Cable.  WFRN-TV records City Council meetings (replayed four times every 24 hours) and other community events.  Even if you have the lowest tier of service you should receive this channel. If you do not use a cable box, you may need an A/B switch to receive WFRN. Call your cable company to receive one. There will be a one-time only low-cost fee for it.

Volunteers help with the camera work. More help is always needed!!! No experience is necessary. Training will be provided.  For details call the Cable TV Department, (248) 546-2503 (in Ferndale City Hall).

Also, on this channel, watch the community bulletin board for announcements and information.

Are You Ready for the Digital Transition?

On February 17, 2009 TV stations in the United States will comply with a Federal mandate to discontinue airing all programming in the analog format consumers have been watching since commercial television first began in 1941.

TV stations in Michigan and throughout the country will transition to a digital format that will not be compatible with the majority of television sets, VCRs and similar products purchased prior to 1998.

To continue receiving a signal after February 17, you must have a digital television, subscribe to cable or purchase a converter box. If you currently receive your television reception through an antenna and do not wish to upgrade your set or subscribe to cable, you will still need an over-the-air antenna in addition to the converter box to receive a digital signal on your analog television set; your current antenna may be adequate, depending on your reception conditions.

These new converter boxes will typically retail between $60 and $80 and will be available for purchase at many retail locations.

The US Government is offering a converter box coupon program -and all households in the country will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40 each - to be used toward the purchase of up to two (2) digital-to-analog converter boxes.

Consumers may request coupons by visiting this site - or by calling: 1-888-DTV-2009.  For more information, log onto www.michigandtv.com.

Public Access Opportunity

Did you know Ferndale residents can get video training and make their own programs for the public access channel? Call CMN, The Community Media Network, at (248) 589-7778 to find out how to sign up for classes and check out equipment.

Reproduction Fees

WFRN TV has a fee of $22 per tape (dub) of any past program that we may still have. We do not save all of our old programs.  We will only make copies on the two hour mode, therefore if program is 2 and 1/2 hours, the fee is $44.

We use only our own VHS tapes or DVD's if the interested party's DVD player is compatible with WFRN's. We do not make copies of City Council meetings. Interested parties should call the Cable TV station, (248) 546-2503, for details of what is available, how long it will take, where to pick up the dub and where to pay.

Feedback to WFRN-TV can be emailed to Phyllis Bensch Lievense @ ferndale-mi.com.
