The Clerk’s office is the frontline point of contact for the public.  City residents may contact the clerk's office for information, directions, or referrals to another city department, so it is not unusual for the city clerk's office to handle more than 1,000 calls per month.

The City Clerk is responsible for the maintenance and distribution of city government information, including official city records, licenses, voter registration, elections, and meetings minutes for the City Council, boards and commissions.

The City Clerk’s Office staff consists of City Clerk J. Cherilynn Tallman, and Deputy Clerk Marne McGrath.

Residents should contact the City Clerk’s office regarding information on the following:

  • Licenses and Permits - Dog licenses, taxi cab plates, handbills, vendors, fence permits, canvassing, solicitation, peddlers permits, transient merchants.  Many of our forms and permits are available in the Resources section of our website.
  • Requests for Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) materials
  • Minutes from the City Council, Civil Service Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Police and Fire Board, Employee Pension Board, and Police and Fire Pension Board
  • Copies of agendas, ordinances, charters, hearing notices, advertisements
  • Voter registration, request for absentee voter ballots, election results
  • Contracts, easements, agreements, commercial and industrial facilities tax exemption certificates
  • Petitions
  • Maps - zoning and precinct.
  • Requests for marriage dates and times for the Mayor to perform ceremony
  • Schedules of meeting dates and times, calendar of holidays.

A complete list of fees can be obtained by calling the City Clerk’s office (248) 546-2384 or by sending an email.  Office hours are 8:00am to 5:30pm, Monday through Thursday.
