Sidewalk Permit Fee Schedule

FY 2012

Double fee for work started without a permit. Minimum permit fee $50.

Before a permit is issued, the following information is required by the contractor:

Signed, Sealed City of Ferndale Concrete Builders Bond for $2,500 (Original) with a two year life span
Signed, Sealed Power of Attorney attached to Bond Form (Original)
Certificate of Liability Insurance to City of Ferndale (Original)

Prior to issuance of a permit the contractor must determine the amount of sidewalk to be replaced. Contractors must have prior approval from the City Engineer to reconstruct flags deemed the City's Responsibility. Property owners may secure a sidewalk or apron permit if they have prior approval from the City Engineer and execute a Homeowner's Affidavit.
New Construction requires a plan approved by the City Engineer.
Sidewalk (1 slab = 25 square feet), up to 200 sq. ft.	$50.00
Additional Fee, per square foot over 200 sq. ft.	$0.25 per square foot
Residential Apron - up to 12 feet wide	$50.00
Commercial Apron - 12 feet - 30 feet wide	$75.00
New Construction requires a plan approved by the City Engineer. Approaches on Eight Mile Road and Woodward require a separate permit from MDOT. Approaches on Ten mile Road require a separate permit from Oakland County. Note: For Sewer repairs requiring sidewalk replacement, see Plumbing fee notes.

Pavement Cut Repairs
Cash Bond	$1,000.00/cut
Permit Fees, per $1,000 of cost	$50.00
Bonds will be returned after the City Engineer is satisfied with the repair. Returned bonds may be reduced due to increased inspection fees, additional required repairs, incorrect pavement type, or if City barricades must be used.

Cancellations or Refunds

Upon written request, prior to commencement of any work, permits may be cancelled and refunded to the holder. The permit fee less 50% or a minimum of $50, will be refunded. The balance will be retained by the City of Ferndale to defray administrative costs.

In cases where work has commenced and a request is received to transfer a permit to another contractor, a minimum fee of $50 shall be charged for the transfer to defray administrative costs. Additional fee amounts will be determined by actual documented administrative costs.
