The Engineering Department provides support including sidewalk replacement, coordination of utilities permitting in public right-of-way, Geographic Information System maintenance and update for streets, water mains, sewer systems, sidewalks, parks, zoning, buildings, parking lots, and private utilities.

The Department of Public Works maintains and repairs 75 miles of major and local (residential) streets, including pothole repairs, sign replacement, traffic-signal maintenance and painting, snow plowing of residential streets when snowfall exceeds four inches in 24 hours; salting and plowing of major streets; and bi-weekly curb side sweeping spring through fall.

In 2002, the city completed its $21.5 million reconstruction and resurfacing program.
