Water Meter Replacement Program

Water/Sewer Overview   |  Pumping Station
Consumers Annual Report  |  Water Meter Replacement Program

The City has contracted with S.L.C. Meter Service, Inc., under a $1.9-million program to update the City’s water-meter-reading system with new, state-of-the-art meters and radio transmitters. A new meter will be installed inside each commercial and residential property, most likely in the basement, while a transmitter will be outside. The new meters will send consumption and other data to the City on a real-time basis, replacing the current outdated system.

Meter replacement is scheduled to start the week of January 18, and continue through June of 2011. A letter will be mailed to each water customer at least one week prior to installation, announcing that uniformed S.L.C. technicians with company-issued identification will be going door to door in their area to install meters and reading devices. After receiving their letter, each customer is encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling S.L.C., toll-free at 1-800-335-1448. Their office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

While a meter is being replaced, the water will be temporarily shut off for about 45 minutes.  Customers who have questions may call the DPW at (248)546-2514, weekdays, 7:30am to 4:00pm.
