EMS
Division

The Ferndale Fire Department EMS Division provides life support
services to the cities of Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge. Included in
the EMS Division are 25 Firefighter/Paramedics, 6
Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians, and an Advanced Life
Support (Paramedic) ambulance. Any questions, concerns, or comments
about the EMS Division can be directed to the EMS Coordinator
Captain Kevin Sullivan at (248) 546-2510.
Cardiac Program
Ferndale has a state of the art Advanced Cardiac Life Support
program that is three-fold:
- Every first response Fire rescue vehicle is equipped with an
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
- We are upgrading our cardiac care to include a 12-Lead
monitor/defibrillator/pacer. Upgrading to a 12-lead unit helps
us more accurately assess heart attacks, start treatment, and
prepare the receiving hospital for rapid placement in definitive
care. The 12-lead program will save time going from the field to
the catheter laboratory, which will benefit our patients by
reducing damage to their heart, increasing survivability, and
improving quality of life.
- CPR classes are offered to the citizens of Ferndale and
Pleasant Ridge. Please contact the EMS Coordinator for more
information.
Pediatric Programs
- Child Car Seat Safety Inspections
Ferndale EMS offers child car seat safety inspections.
Firefighter/Paramedic Gary McMenamin, a certified safety seat
technician, will walk concerned family members through the how,
what and why’s of proper safety seat installation. Participants
gain first hand knowledge while actually installing their car
seat in their vehicle under the guidance of our technician.
Child car safety seats are only safe for the child if installed
correctly! To set up an appointment to receive this invaluable
education and hands on training, please contact (248)541-3601.
- Pre-Hospital Emergency Pediatric Provider (PEPP)
Ferndale’s firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMTs are all
certified in
PEPP training through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
(). This education and training gives field medical personnel
the most up to date information on the assessment and treatment
of medical emergencies of an infant or child.
