Fire Safety House
The Ferndale
Fire Safety House was purchased in 2001 through grants and business
donations and has educated hundreds of Ferndale citizens and
citizens in neighboring communities. Our Fire Safety House
contained the first tornado preparedness package in the state of
Michigan. The Fire Safety House has a smoke simulator and heated
door and teaches bedroom window escape as well as kitchen and
bedroom safety. The Fire Safety House is on display and available
for tours at the Bike Rodeo held in June each year. The Fire Safety
House can also be rented. For more information, please call Fire
Headquarters at (248) 546-2510.
Horton Rescue Unit
The 2008 Horton Rescue Unit was placed in service on February 14,
2008. This unit is an upgrade from previous rescues as we went from
a light duty to a medium duty truck. The greatest benefit of this
upgrade is increased safety, both for the patients and the
firefighters. The larger vehicle affords much better protection in
accident situations. Included in the safety features are two seats
equipped with a five-point harness that protect the
firefighter/medics. Another obvious improvement is more patient
compartment room and more storage capability for equipment and
supplies.
