Ferndale Public LibraryThe Ferndale Public Library opened its doors in one room of the Central School building in 1930.  In 1954 the library moved next door to its current site at 222 East Nine Mile, just one half block east of Woodward Avenue and right next door to City Hall.  The Library’s book and materials collection has grown from 2,000 to over 98,000 items and includes books, books on cassette and CD, videos, a CD musical collection, and videos in VHS and DVD.

StoryHour with City Librarian Mary TrennerIf you are looking for a rewarding experience for your three 3˝ to five year old child the Library offers storyhours designed to introduce children to books and other activities.  Storyhours include stories told and read, fingerplays, action games, musical and craft activities.  For your 2 and 3 year old child the Library offers a lap sit toddler program for adult and child.  For school age children in Kindergarten, first and second grade the Library offers Klip Klub – a story and craft program.

The staff of the Ferndale Public Library has always offered friendly, quality assistance.  Answering telephone and in person reference questions and helping users find exactly the right book are valuable regular services.  Among the Library’s many special services are classroom loans to Ferndale schoolteachers, programs for adults and children and interloan of materials not available in the library.

Each November the Ferndale Library holds its book, bake and bag sale.  Donations of used books and new baked goodies help to make this annual event loads of fun for everyone and helps to pay for our summer reading program for children.
