Library Aide - Full and Part-Time

General Statement of Duties:
To assist in the Circulation Department of the Library and to
perform a variety of clerical tasks.
Supervision Received:
Work is performed under the supervision of the City Librarian and
Department Head.
Typical Examples of Work:
An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of
the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which
an employee may be expected to perform.)
- Issue library cards and maintain application files.
- Answer the telephone.
- Charge and discharge library material.
- Check in, sort and distribute mail, magazines and
newspapers.
- Prepare and send out overdue notices.
- Collect fines.
- Assist in maintaining statistical records.
- Assist in processing new materials.
- Operate various office machines.
- Repair library materials
- Perform miscellaneous typing.
- Perform related work as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications for Employment:
- Some knowledge of library procedures, practices and
techniques.
- Elementary knowledge of modern office practices and
procedures.
- Ability to type accurately and with reasonable speed.
- Some knowledge of computers.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with members of
the general public and maintain effective working relationships
with fellow employees.
An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the
equivalent of the following training and experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school.
